THE MAHINDRA SCORPIO
Mahindra won a lot of customers because of this award-winning compact SUV. The Mahindra Scorpio was named “Car of the Year” by Business Standard Motoring, “Best SUV of the Year” and “Best Car of the Year” by BBC World Wheels on the year it was first introduced. In 2006, Mahindra added 43 new features to build on their tradition of excellence and customer satisfaction. Today, the Mahindra Scorpio has a fresh new look that appeal to the same sporty and adventurous customers that have loved and enjoyed it in the past.
Sets the Standard in SUVs
The Mahindra Scorpio is currently the bestselling SUV in the automaker’s home country India, but a heavily re-engineered version of its 2010 model is expected to be introduced in America by the end of the year, a few months after the scheduled release of the trucks. An all-new Mahindra Scorpio will also arrive on US shores on 2011 according to Mahindra Planet, rumored to be a monocoque-chassis 4x4 or having a unitized body and frame.
Perfect Blend of Form and Function
The Mahindra Scorpio revolutionized the concept of SUVs in India. Before it came out, an SUV was only considered a practical workhorse with sub-par looks and features. It lead the industry upon introduction and the country saw it evolve into a better car as time passed. The Mahindra Scorpio headed to America will be powered by 4-cylinder Common Rail diesel engine paired with a 6-speed automatic. It will also be available in both 2WD and Electronic Shift on Fly 4WD and will come with an Independent Torsion Bar with Stabilizer Bar in front and Multilink Coil Springs at the back. And although actual US EPA estimates have not been released, it’s expected to deliver 30 MPG on the highway, which is pretty good fuel efficiency.
Modified for the US Market
While it continues to lead in its home country, there will be changes to the Mahindra Scorpio to address preferences of US customers. The Scorpio is a classy-looking truck-type SUV wagon that seats up to seven people and should have features such as side airbags, anti-lock brakes, rear-obstacle detection, auto-on headlamps and rain-sensing wipers. The US version is expected to have a liftgate instead of the swing-out cargo door and front-facing third row seats instead of the inward-facing ones according to Consumer Guide Auto.
Although full specifications are yet to be released, the Mahindra Scorpio is gearing up to be a perfect vehicle choice for its style and practicality. Stocks will surely get cleared out quickly once its reliability is proven.
